I was at a lfs and saw some fish labeled as greenspot crocodile pike. When I asked the guy what they were he said that they stay small like the hujeta gar. He said they can get up to a foot and were green in color. I have looked online and can't find any info on them or even any picture of any on here. Does anyone know any other names this fish might go by? The fish looked real shy in the tank hiding in the back behind some decor. The store had 2 left the last time I was there. I would like to find out some more info no them before I buy one. Can anyone help point me in the right direction?

Bump.. No ideas? Maybe the guy was wrong on the size. Can anyone throw some names out there for me based on the description above?

Either Luciocephalus pulcher or L. aura. He is correct in that they stay small - much smaller than 12". There are several threads on these fish here, and even more in the ether ...

oh btw, those luciocephalus species are whats called pikeheads.
not very active.very demanding.
only eat live.and get to around 8 inches.
never seen one past 6 though.

It looks like most of the pictures just a little different coloration, but they look to be a kind of pulcher. Thanks for the help guys!

The only noticeable difference between the species is that L. aura is covered with pearly little dots all across its lateral line and below. Both are equally difficult to care for long-term.

They also need planted, very stable, acidic water tanks. Watch them when they feed, they have truly huge mouths. They are a relative of the gouramis and bettas.
