Help... my tank is being overrun. i have a 30 gallon planted tank. Co2. and good lighting, maybe im leaving the light on too long!>? ideas on how to get rid of the problem, light stays on 8-9 hours daily. and i run blue night LED lighting. any input is appriciated.
Thanks

the light is a 30in orbit 1 x 65 watt Dual Daylight (10000K and 6700K), 1 x 65 watt Dual Actinic (460nm and 420nm)

I've always been told those actinic bulb can contribute to algae. Right? Also, since photosynthesis starts quicker in plants than algae you could leave the lights on for 12 hrs. with a 2 hour "break" in the middle of the day. IMO. I guess it also depends on what kind of plants.

120 watts of light on a 30 long is a bit excessive. The actinic is not benefitting the plants but may be helping the algae. I would begin by removing the dual actinic bulb. Stop adding ferts (if you are using them). How many co2 bubbles per second is your co2 system putting out? Check the ph and kh and then google co2 calculator to determine if the ph/kh/co2 balance is indeed benefitting the plants.

That method only works if you have no buffers/pH adjusters, and that you know what kind of drop of pH you are having.

What does the algae look like? If you can post a pic that will help, as hair algae is a red algae, that is usually very dark. Green algae is usually a thread algae.

why are you running such a blue spectrum on a freshwater planted tank?
10,000K and 6700K are standards for planted aquaria.
