Hi guys can Green Moray Eel live in freshwater? Since I heard that Eel only go to salt water to breed I thought they probably live in freshwater as well. Is this true?

Also are there ANY kind of Eel that can live in freshwater that are actually colorful rather than just being grey?

Living a few years less is never, EVER, something that a fishkeeper should aim for. Look into some exotic Spiny Eels, like Fires, Tanganyikans, or African Zebras.

By a few years I mean about a year, 2 max, not like 10 or 15. Moray Eel live for up to 50 years any ways. I will be getting one of these and one Fimbriated Moray. I really wouldn't harm an animal for my own enjoyment and happiness, every one who knows me well knows that, if it lived for even more than 5 years less I wouldn't do it, but one year doesn't seem to matter.

btw, is this a Green Moray Eel? http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/f...ttachmentid=454553&stc=1&thumb=1&d=1264146138

btw can Moray Eel walk on land?

Maybe I will also get an African Zebra Eel depending on how much they cost and if they are legal were I live.

Yes, that's a Green Moray. Please keep in mind that they can grow to 6 foot plus, and probably need a tank of around 550 gallons. And they need saltwater. Even 2 years is a long time if you know that the fish isn't living that long. If a fish lives 2 years less that it's life span, then obviously something is wrong.

Why did you make 3 threads for this?

green morays cant live in freshwater. period. SOME eels are able to venture into freshwater to breed, but only SOME. green morays are unable to do this.

if i told you that with the blink of an eye i had taken the last year off your life, youd be pretty pissed off wouldnt you?

You can't be serious. If you are, then you need to do some major research into this. Some people have eroneausly stated that green moray's can live in freshwater. The fact is that they are tough, and can suffer a lingering death in freshwater. Point of fact is, I can throw you into the water, and you could live, for a time. But that doesn't mean that you will thrive, does it?

as stated above, no moray is truly a FW species, a few have some tolerance (G. polyuranodon for example), but green morays are one of them. They are Sw
