Has anyone on mfk got one? are they rare or is there a chance I can get hold of one?

Dreamsofpeace54 your lucky to have owned such a beauty!

Does anyone know the latin/technical name for this fish?

I happen to be a very knowledgeable person on the L200. I have kept many over my years, as this happens to be my favorite pair of loricariidae species on the planet. L200 has two scientific names, one for the low fin variety, Hemiancistrus subviridis, and one for the hi fin variety, seen in my avatar, Baryancistrus demantoides. They are not rare, but have rarely been bred in aquaria. I have had a pair spawn, but lost the female and nearly lost the male to a filter failure. These guys get big, and actually vary a lot in color. There is still no solid proof that these two species, as well as L128, Hemiancistrus sp., are not all in fact one species just found in different locals. Planet catfish has a great article regarding the color range of the two L#'s. If you dig back in my started threads, you will see my old breeding project on these guys. Many pictures of the big guys, and gals.

Wyldfya! You the man! First you save me with your plant knowledge, now you come at me with this wealth of knowledge about the phantoms! I'm about to search for your old threads about them....

Ps. Please check what I'm about to post regarding plecs, I've been looking to buy one today and think someones trying to pull my pants down regarding the prices :(

which kind of the pleco is that? the one in the picture? Hemiancistrus and Baryancistrus look very dull to me without the bright green color in pictures in planetcatfish

as said, they vary a lot in colour and in pattern... spots can vary from very few (Wyldfya had a cool one with very few spots) and some down the length of the body. Also base colour from lime green to mustard yellow and everything imbetween. I don't think there has ever been an account for Baryancistrus demantoides to have been spawned in aquaria, the Hemiancistrus only a few recorded times.

I got mine at about 4-5" at about $40. I have only seen one place around me sell them, and its not all the time. Heres mine...
