i've had my green sev for about 6 months now but he isnt showing much green at all, he is mainly a shade of grey sometime with hints of aqua green but no where near as colourful as the pics i have seen of other green sevs.
Do there colours come out as the grow or do i just have a dully coloured fish?
Water is in good condition

Do you have a larger picture? It appears that it may be a female. This may explain why it doesn't have the best color/pattern. One of my female sevs is solid grey/blue all the time with no stripes or markings.

It takes the males a while to get full patterning, but usually by a year old or so they are colored up. I have some 7 - 8" males that look really great. It took them a while to get there.

With time they do get better color I got mine 8 months ago here are before and after shots.

This is nip when I first got her 8 month ago she was 1"

Here she is now at 4"

I would say around 4" they start to really color up. But some are just not as bright as others. Heros sp. Franz-Guyana are a type of Heros cf. efasciatus but a dull color morph.

it might be the type of food i know some food i fed my fish made their colors stick out more

well i feed my fish hikiari cichild gold along with prawns and friut n veg from time to time.

Here are a couple more pics, i got it around oct last year, he is prob about 4 inches at the moment.
Could anyone tell the sex of it? also what type of sev is it?

nice sev u have there snowflake! i hope mine turns out like that, I also really like red sev's but i dont think u can get them in australia?? Anyone seen red sev's in aust?

Thanks. Red severums are hard to find here in the US. I had to order them off line. I have only seen the red severum once in the LFS and never saw it again.

The Golds are common and can be pretty.

look at the gill plates of the fish. If you see worm lines on the gill plates its a male. No marking at all or just dots then its a female.

hey thanks for the info.
My sev has dots on its gill plate so i guess its a girl and that means to much colour right???
maybe i'll have to look out for a male
