This five year old pair of green severums has a 'new lease on life' ... breeding life that is. I just recently moved them to a 180G tank with several other SA cichlids. Despite the presence of 9 Geophagus winemilleri, 4 Acarichthys heckelii, a pair of Heros notatus, a pair of Heros severus, and a large male Parrot cichlid, they have managed to find a quiet spot and have spawned twice in the last three weeks. The previous spawn didn't make it to the free swimming stage, but this spawn did. Here the parents are closely watching their progeny as they venture out into the open. I plan to pull a few fry, about 1/4 of which are gold.

When in breeding dress, they turn very dark, almost black. One of the fluorescent tubes above the tank favors the blue end of the spectrum, casting a bluish tint into the 'black'. The orange is as vivid as you see it.
