I have my GS in a 125 along with two oscars, a tsc, and a bunch of crayfish...........I am thinking of a species only tank.........I already am raising one, I grew from 1 inch to his current 6 inch.......I really want a tank for himself and maybe I can get him to pair with a group if not a partner..........What size do you prefer???????I have an offer for a 90g(4ftx18x24)........Will this size allow a group of 5 to grow and eventually pair........I want a species only.......So I may be go for the biotope thing and place Amazon swords and driftwood..........

Growing out a group of sevs in a 90g is great. I had 2 pairs of them in a 4' 150g...one spawning on each side of the tank.

Won't the oscars (and sevs) eat the crayfish? Or is that the plan?

Matt

I think growing out a group of 5 in a 90 is fine. Is your goal to just end up witha pair? If so a pair in a 90 would be ok IMO but not 5 long term once a pair or two form.

I've kept eight Severums in a 90G tank (4'long x 18" wide x 24" tall) for 3 years now... 2 pairs of 'efasciatus and 2 pairs of 'notatus. It's pretty tight and it would be better to have just 4- 6 Sevs in there, but they breed regularly and keep their distance from one another. They all grew up together from a small size, which may, in part account for their compatibility. I have it set up with several territories defined by driftwood, plastic plants (tall) and flower pots that they can claim. Two Geophagus sp. Red Head Tapajos are in there as well.

I wanted something new, so I bought a dozen crayfish at the Asian market..........Turns out the oscars and tsn I have are big enough to eat the crayfish..........I am down to three within a week........

I enjoy breeding fish......When I get a pair breeding, I usually breed the fish for a few months selling/trading the fry......It strengthens the bond between me and the hobbyBut this time I am more looking for a species only tank.......More like something you will see as a display tank at museum showing only one fish species and a description.............
