hey im waiting on a guy who is drppoing off some fish we swapped and in the deal i aquired 20 3 inch green sevrums.... and i have never owned any sevs at all.... ever so i supposed my question is any care tips, temp,im assuming standard mixed diet , how are they for aggression?, tank mates.

bear in mind there gonna be split up between a few tanks and some sent home with my old man ..
or should i swarm my larger tank?
any help would be great
thanks

At that size they should be fine aggression-wise as long as you don't keep them 2 - 3 per tank. The aggression will be more evenly spread out if you keep them in groups of 6 or so.

I keep my temperature between 80 - 82, feed a variety of pellets with occasional frozen treats, and give them large weekly water changes. Most will eventually tear up and/or eat plants so a setup with no plants is best. You can keep fake plants but they will rearrange sand and gravel as they get older, especially when spawning, so they may uproot them.

They can be shy as juveniles but this shouldn't be a problem if you're keeping them in groups.

Most peaceful to semi-aggressive South American cichlids make decent tankmates as long as the tank is large enough. I've kept mine with all sorts of acaras, geos, uaru, angelfish, discus, pikes, keyholes, etc.

It depends on who you ask, I guess. I love all severums. They're the most common variety so people probably get sick of seeing them, much like oscars or convicts, but it doesn't mean that they're not great fish. Their colors are really varied, so you may have some that are more plain and some that are outstanding. Growing out a large group will give you a good selection of fish to choose from.

I've kept green severums with aggressive fish like parachromis amphilophus some excichlasoma sp. And they hold their own OK. I've found that they are conspicificly aggressive, like Ryan said. They do better in groups 3+ if kept with other severums.
