Hi,
I've had my snakehead for just under a year now, and in both his old tank and the new one (set up for about 3 weeks) I've had real difficulty with green slime algae... I can't shift it at all, no matter how long I have the lights on, using anti algae chemicals, extra plants, zebra nerite snails. It keeps smothering my plants and is now taking over one of my filters. Any suggestions on how to shift it?

I think that is what it is yea, as it seems to look like the pictures I've seen on the internet of it... thank you :)

Got some slightly different stuff, as couldn't get that one in the UK very easily... called easy life blue exit... dose it for five days, then wait, ten days after the last dose it should have cleared... well, today is day six from start of dosing, 9 days left to see if this infestation might finally clear (had it for over a year in two separate tanks)... fingers crossed :) also started dosing proper fertiliser (ie micro nutrients) and liquid carbon, so that should help my plants out

Yeah, when I got blue/green algae I bleached the tank and started over lol......

I would do that, but.... got a feeling my snakehead would love being in my other tank, think my little peaceful fish would hate it somehow.... fingers crossed this shifts it

Ok, so dosing a chemical didn't work... I've read somewhere that low nitrates are a cause of bga, and my nitrates never really go above 5 (fortnightly wc, about 20%) so... I can't add extra bioload... my nitrates are still low now, despite two weeks no water change and not running purigen for those weeks... lights are on eight hours a day.... it's a planted tank, but mostly taken over by floating plants, has only been planted about a month... so at the risk off sounding insane, how do I dose nitrates? I can't increase the bioload anymore (would love a plec, but can't risk it with my sh), so I need to dose it... any ideas?

That's what I've been using.... didn't shift it, so might try another week's dose.... my water parameters are great currently, 0,0,0-5 and 0 phosphate... guy at the fish shop said its natural and I should just ignore it...
