Canada eh?
Hey all I been on the forums Long and keep many typs of fish (piranha/cichlids/inverts ext) but i was @ the fish store today and i fell in love with puffers. So im thinking of getting 3 green spoted puffers for a 30g tank i have set up.

The lfs said they grow to 5" but with past experiance i know knot to trust lfs advice so i decided to ask here.

How big do they get?
Is 3 in a 30g tank ok?
what elese should i know that I already dont know?

Thanks everyone :)

Everything you need to know about GSPs (I hope):

Sweet thank u very much :)

So they really grow 6"? how long will it take to get to that size (assuming i keep them in optimal conditions)

Im thinking of just getting 2 now and moving them to a new tank at around 4"

my one GSP grew from about 2 inches to 4 to 4 1/2 inches within a year, but my other one isnt growing as fast even though they are in the same tank and have the same exact diet and both eat like pigs. so i doubt there is a set growth rate. i would say maybe two years maybe 3 to get full size, just going off my experience. but 2 in a 30 could be trouble. i had my two in a 29 for a little while until i found a deal on craigslist. but my (then smaller) one GSP would chase my other GSP(now bigger by 1 1/2 inches) but never nipped the fins. once i moved them into a 75 the chasing stopped and now they swim around together all the time and hunt for my nassarius snails in the sand. pretty awesome!

My Gsp has grown 1cm in 8months and is in full saltwater :)

Maybe it's in SW too soon?

I hope you're planning on an upgrade. 30g minimum for an adult GSP.

I kept one in a 30 cube. got around 3 or 4 inches. Was fresh for the first 2 or 3 years, then brackish for a year, then full salt. I wouldn't put anything more than one in a 30.

ya i would say growth is both genetic variation, calories and water quality. my GSP is in a 29G, he is 2inch in SG.0.013 he has grown about 1/2 inch in 6months but is as round as my thumb
