I recently bought a jumbo GSP and have him in a 55g with some cichlids in fw. He has been eating and acting fine but has a black belly a lot of the time. He is about 4-4 1/2 long and so probably almost full grown.

I was thinking of starting him on a drip acclimation from my 35g salt tank with a snowflake eel and let him switch over in a matter of a few days.

Do you guys think this would be too fast of a change? He seems completely healthy other than the black belly.

i think it would be ok.

do you have QT tank that you can set up at 1.010 and move it into that first? then leave it for a few days. and then drip aclimatize from 1.010 to whatever your SW is at. im guessing 1.022+

id just do that for piece of mind. as you would have to find a way to heat and filter the bucket, and also remove water from it, even in the middle of the night, or risk it overflowing as a result.

I do have a QT so i guess i will get that salted up and put the puffer in there in a couple hours.

thanks for the help

He should be fine, just take your time raising his bucket only .001-.002/hour. Use a heater & airstone in there. What's the SG of the tank? Can you lower it a bit?

It is around 1.023 and the eel is the only other thing in there so it should be fine to lower it a bit. How much should it be lowered?

1.018

hey guys, ive got a gsp, actually two of them, one is about a yr and a half, she is pretty big, i hope not done growing, but about 3.5 to 4 inches long, and about the width of a pool sticks thick end. the other one is about 8 months old and isnt growing as fast as the other one did. althought the first one was one of five, and she surrived them all. so my question is, should they get any bigger, ive got them in a 55 wide, and soon to be a 75g. they eat like little pigs, and their water is brackish. should i convert them to full salt? just really new to the fish world, due to my roomie making a impulse decision to buy 5 gsp's last feb... lol.. anyway just looking for some advice! thanks!

So did the other 3 die? What are you feeding them? SG? Is the younger skinny or is the older one stealing all it's food? High-end BW-SW is recommended fo adults.

I just dropped the Puffer in the tank and he is looking great. The Snowflake did give him a spanking for getting a little friendly though.
