I have been researching about my GSP's and have found all types of conflicting information.

So my question is...do these fish need brackish environments or will they do fine living in fresh water?

I have seen all types of different suggestions throughout the web and would love to get a real answer once and for all.

They are often sold as freshwater. And they can live in it, but their lifespan is much shorter.

They need brackish to have the best life possible. And definitely saltwater as adults^^

just like already said, most the time you find them in freshwater. But they really need high BW and then full salt when adults

Please do not keep them in F/W... just because they seem to be always sold in F/W doesn't mean they do well in it at all...

Best bet it to slowly raise the salinity up slowly till its low brackish and as it grows, make the salinity higher...

Here is a good article for you to read over about GSP to start with; GSP Introduction

i kept one in fresh water when i was a noob. it lived for about 3 months. then stopped eating and croaked. i was told it would keep my snail population to a minimum, in which he did. but they didnt tell me i was going to kill it. poor guy
