My green sunfish layed eggs a couple of days ago and should be hatching soon/are hatching. I have relocated all other fish to a different tank except for the male and my pleco. I plan on trying to feed them frozen baby brine shrimp after a few days. Thsi si my first time doing this so some tips and advice is greatly appreciated

Remove the pleco as well they are natoriuse egg eaters.

I have never raised sunfish but have raised other fish. When the egg sacs are gone and they are free swimming you will want to feed them Hikari first bites or something similar. Brine shrimp don't have allot of nutritional value. First Bites is a powder you dip your dry finger in the powder then into the tank. You wont see anything in the tank but you will see the fry darting around eating do this 3 times day until they get a little size on them 3 weeks to a month. Then move up to crushed flakes, then to spirulina flakes.

I do a 10% water change 2-3 times a week.

Do you have time to hatch brine shrimp? :). Reason for asking IMO live baby brine will make jerking movements, and highly more nutrient.

Oh, shoot...I'll get him out of there asap. Do you think i should take the male out too? I don't want him to eat them. I've never heard of the first bites powder but I'll give that a try instead

I don't think i have time. The eggs were layed 3 days ago so they should be hatching today, or soon

I'd love updates! What did you do? Did they just breed on their own?

Will update. Yea, the male had been making nests on and off for a couple of months now. I thought i must've just had all males since there have been no eggs but i was definitely wrong!

Is the male guarding?

Yup, he didn't like it when i was taking the other fish out lol, one of other fish was able to sneak a few eggs :irked:

No survivors...not sure what happened but I have a feeling they got eaten. The first couple of days i saw a few fry floating around after hatching but on day 3there was no sign of any fry :( better luck next time i guess

just kidding, I checked my tank Saturday night and there were about 200 fry at the surface. Wish me luck lol. I'm not sure what to do with them :S
