green sunfish feeding questions

Yes.. they can be converted to pellets, and the reaction youre getting is normal. Those pellets are somthing new and strange to them, they obviously much prefer live foods, or blood worms etc. But ive had great success with Hikaki small floating pellets, soft seems to work better, and as mean as it sounds if you make them hungry, they will convert to pellets as a main source of food. You cant cave in and cater to the little beggers, i believe they know that if they just spit out somthing they dont really care for your desire to see them eat will get the better of you and you will cough up some tasty, krill or mysis. let them go hungry for a couple of days, then just put in a few pellets, if they eat thats cool if not make-em wait another day. You dont have to completely take away all goodies but only give them as a treat after they have made their main meal of pellets. There may also be somthing to as they learn "if im gonna get blood worms", ive gotta eat these dang pellets first. :naughty:

it takes time, but its well worth it, as pellets are cheaper and are a better source of nutrition than worms or feeders. i convert my sunfish by starving them for a week and start offering pellets from the 3rd day of starvation until the week is over. it usually only takes a week to get them

definitely convert.

from one local green keeper to another, its way cheaper feeding pellets. just starve them. its a wild fish. itll eat them eventually. mine did the same thing for a few days...chew and spit. but it learned to eat them. now he eats a whole mess of them.

I soaked pellets in a glass of water to make them sink in the water. You can also add garlic extract to the water to make the pellets a little more enticing. Try, try again.

my green sunfish are the only fish in my tank that readily accept pellets(or anything for that matter) and i didn't have to do a thing after they realized it was food.
