I love my green sunfish. I put up a post a while ago about hime an he has grown two inchs since then. Read to find out how i got him its hilarious. But nobody seems to keep them as pets.... Unfortunatly. But I was curious if anyone knew how big the adult size is, im going to have to guess around 8 inchs.
Here is a link to my original post, his colorations have changed dramatically since this photo, he is much darker now, and has stripes.

p.s. he is no longer troublesome. XD

Nice sunfish! Any more recent pics?

Green sunfish can grow to nearly a foot in length if kept in decent accomadations.

Also, you may try looking in North American Native & Coldwater forum for more info (sunfish aren't cichlids ;) ). A mod will probably move it there shortly for you. :)

Cheers,
Art

Green sunfish can reach between 8-12". Here is my female, she is about 10".

Thanks and yes, the convict is about 5". The catfish in the PVC is a brown bullhead.

Males are generally more colorful than females, they also IME tend to be more aggressive.

In my neck of the woods , there is an abundance of greens, and in one special place, i catch them as fast as the worms hit the water, this is a secluded lake with no fishing allowed (except me :) ) these little greens about 3 inches or less are fantastic, both in color and shape. But i learned very quickly that unless i wanted to devote a tank to just them, i was in for lots of trouble, plus the adults ive seen in captivity, are less than attractive to me, So IMO, unless youre ready for the above, leave em in the lake, or stream. I still catch them with a barbless hook (all i use) and think what a beautiful specimen then put them right back.On the other side if you like em pay your money and watchem beat the @#%$ out of everything else in your tank.
