What's the recommended tank size for a green? I'd love to toss him in a 55 but the wife won't let me get another 4 foot tank til we move. Could I fit him in a 40 tall for life and have him be comfortable? this tank will be for the green sunfish and that's it, no tankmates.

Thanks in advanced.

He'd be fine in that tank, yes. They don't get massive, around 8 inches maybe?

What are the dimensions? Anything at least 36"x12" will do for an adult male alone. Females are much more timid and get very jumpy when kept with no tankmates. I keep my female green in a 30 long with a trio of creek chubs that keep her from getting bored. She's easily the boss of the tank at 5" while the chubs are 7-8".

well that's where i'm at dive. I had him in my 75 gal cichlid tank, but he would've killed everyone in there if i let him. he's in a 20 by himself right now and much much more shy. was the most personable fish in the world with tankmates but he HATES them. And any tank that i could put more than just him in i feel like it'd have to be at least 4ft. I just don't have that space right now. dive what size tank do you have her in with the chubs?

another question while i'm here, how much rock work do i need for him. right now there's a bunch and i never see him because of it. can i do a single cave that i can easily see into without him getting stressed cause he can't hide.

Thanks again guys.

I have her in a 30 long with the chubs but they filth up the water very quickly and I'm upgrading her to a 125 with some other sunfish pretty soon. To keep your guy with a healthy school of chubs (4-6) I'd say aim for a 75 as male greens can get 8-12". Although I've never seen one around us more than 7".
