My firemouth and my green terror when i bought them they were both real dark colored but once i got them home there color changed and there really light now not to much color to them. What causes this in fish stress or what. Also could the color of my substrat be a factor??

They're probably just stressed from moving... I think the tankmates are more of an issue than the substrate color.

Any pics? How big is the tank?

Most likely its from the change of tanks. After a few days they should color back up. It also could be from being overstocked. a 45 gallon not big enough to house a Green Terror by himself let alone to house a tiger oscar, green texas, salvini, and a jack dempsey. Most of these fish need at the least a 55 gallon by themself. Agression levels are going to get high in such a small tank which causes stress and possible death :( Hopefully you can do your upgrade soon!

I think it might be the subtrate color . Ive seen this before with my jd . I have to change the color of my subtrate for it to start looking normal. Before I changed it the sand he was real dark after he was tan like a normal jack dempsey. If they are still young they will ok in a 45 till they are about 3-4" then they will need atleast a 125g or larger

I would say part of the problem is substrate, and the other is that most cichlids don't look their best if they aren't top dog in the tank. I find it funny when people say you can't house that many fish in one tank. Just because you have a green terror doesn't mean that for you to bring it home from the pet store it has to go in a very large tank by itself. For all we know those fish could be tiny. All the fish in your tank are semi aggressive in my book. So, they'll tolerate each other longer then if you had Flowerhorns or red devils. The funny thing about cichlids is as soon as the tank is "over stocked" if you don't upgrade your tank, they will make room for themselves by killing each other.

All my fish are pretty much an 1 in to an 1 1/2 in. so there pretty small as soon as they get larger i plan to upgrade them to a larger tank. thanks for all the advice :)
