My GT stopped eating for nearly a week now, beefheart, flakes, pellets the whole lot. Is this normal or could it have something to do with my Convict all of a sudden becoming bullish ? GT has just become lethargic, will this problem sort it self out or could it be some kind of invisible infection(upset stomach).?

I would wait and see, it is not good to treat for disease unless you know what you are treating. Watch for bloating and see ish the fish poops or starts to get thin, a GT can go a couple weeks without food.

Cichlids often carry hexamita protozoans in their gut, one symptom is slimy white or clear feces. Metronidazole clears it up. The best way to treat internal infections is with an antiparasite medicated food like the one made by Jungle labs but there are others also. Not the antibiotic food as that doesn't phase protozoals. Most antiparasite foods contain metro, prazi, and at least one other med like levamisole.
If the fish is not eating at all treat the water. Metro should not effect your filter.

it could have something to do with the con becoming a bully. if the con has all of a sudden started picking on the green terror it could very well have the GT stressed out. this could very well be the cause for the loss of appetite and white stringy poo is a symptom of a number of problems. are all the fish in your sig. in the same tank and if so how big is the tank? also, have you checked water parameters (ammonia, nitrites and nitrates) recently? :)

it could also very well be the internal problems that Guppy mentioned that were made worse by the stress of being picked on by the convict. you might want to consider moving the con out of the tank if it is stressing the other fish out too bad. :)

Agreed, even if it is hexamita cichlids often carry the parasite and show no symptoms unless their resistance is lowered by some other stressor.

Got rid of the Con, and the terror has been a bit more chirpy today, he has not taken a great deal of food, but had a good nosh on some stray flake. The sev's and both terrors just seem more relaxed, although the LFS may notice a few tattered rainbows come the morning.

Oh and the tank is a 500ltr, and I've used test strips and liqiud nitrate and ammonium test and the params seem to be coming out fine although the water round here is hard due to the lime content.
