This is my green terror I recently purchased from my local fish store. A truly photogenic specimen, though this one seems to be a particularly picky eater. During his quarantine, he ate frozen bloodworms and occasionally some pellets, though after being introduced to my primary display tank, he refuses to eat pellets even with added garlic. Any tips on how to wean him off of frozen bloodworms?

+1. The pictured Rivulatus has good color, but doesn't have the muscular, full bodied look of a healthy male Green Terror.
You might consider treating with a dewormer.

I agree it looks like there is some internal parasitic infection. You can see where it’s pinched between the gills and stomach area. Treat with a dewormer.

I agree with the others. He looks emaciated and frail. Gold Saums should be thick, bulky and strong. In my experience, GT’s seem to be more susceptible to internal parasites than their CA counterparts. I would watch him closely and consider treating for IP’s.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I’ve returned him to his quarantine setup and am treating him with PraziPro. I’ll also closely monitor the other fish in the display to see if they suffer similar symptoms. It seems that I was too hasty with his quarantine and I should’ve bulked him up and medicated him for a bit longer. Should I increase the feeding frequency?

If he has a strong appetite, then feed him. Not too much as that can lead to its own problems. Try to get him on pellets. Prazi is more for flukes and external worms, for parasites I believe levamisole is better. Hex shield works well, but is pricey and only good if it eats pellets.

Levamisole works better dissolved in water. If he's eating id suggest feeding epsom salt / garlic soaked metronidazole coated pellets.

He’s now eating Hikari Food Sticks that are snapped into small pieces as well as Hikari Cichlid Gold. Hex Shield was a bit pricy but that was the only one that I could get my hands on immediately. His appetite is actually much stronger since I originally posted this. I’ll keep posting updates.
