I just picked up my new GT i was hoping someone could help me sex him/her? I've been calling him a male since hes really colorful @ only about 3 inches. His Dorsal fin has been nipped off pretty bad as well as a few nips on his tail fin. I've only had him for two days so i'm sure he will color up even more once hes used to his new aquarium and starts eating on more normal schedule. So far he's eating good and is pretty much used to my presence, all is well so far.

Lol someone please tell me Male... I tried my best to pick him out, he was the most colorful and resemebled a male Green Terror the most out of the GT's they had. The sign on the tank said they were (Wild Caught). Anyway here are a couple of the best pics i was able to get when he wasn't moving around too fast. (Hope these links work)

As you can see in the pic above his Dorsal fin is nipped quite a bit, he's healing pretty quickly though.

Here he is next to my 6" JD who i think is female. Anyway they have been seperated for good and the GT will live alone.

Although still a bit small I think it is likley a female. As it gets bigger if it does not begin to develp longer rays on its dorsal and anal fins along with the development of a Nuchal hunp then it is probabaly a female.

Body coloration, lack of color on the gill plates and fin shape suggest male to me.

Also not all males develop the nuchal hump.

It's a male.

I still say female . I have had Lot's of GT's over my 30+ years of keeping fish and I would be willing to bet that that is not a male.Lack of color on the gill plates is not a determination of sex if you look at the large GT that is my Avatar you will notice plenty of coloration in his gill plates. An most GT males will at least have some variace of angle of their forehead if not a full blown nuchal hump.

It's still pretty small. I am just telling my opinion. It still has alot of growing to do and could develop the traits I mentioned. Good Luck.
