Hello all, just purchased a stunning green terror this Friday. He is about 6 inches and flawless. He is in a 55 gallon all by himself, and water paramaters are spot on. Ive been keeping fish for probably about 10 years now, and think hes acting a little odd. Maybe im overreacting but since Friday night when he went in the tank he only swims on one half of it. Also, he immediatly goes after pellets that i feed him (new life spectrum large fish, and omega chiclid) as well as freeze dried krill. However as soon as he engulfs it, he spits it back out. then in and out. Ive never experienced this before? Wanted to throw it out there to you guys and see what you thought. Thanks so much.

hes probably just still getting used to the tank, and does he eventually eat the pellet? some of my younger cichlids do this to kind of mush up the pellet first if its to big for them to outright swallow, a fish IME can swallow another fish bigger than a pellet but sometimes the smaller pellets are harder for them to swallow, i think it has to do with it being hard or something because then usually once it soaks up some water and softens then they eat it, maybe try a smaller pellet and see how that goes or soak the pellets first before giving them to him GOOD LUCK

Thanks so much, at first he crushed them then spit it out then picked up the pieces. now he goes after them right away and spits them out. im feeding him really small pellets and i tried soaking them as well in both tank water and zoe. Maybe im paranoid cause i like him so much just never had any of my other fish do it.

Maybe he doesnt like it. I have fish that do this sometimes too, they play with it. Or sometime they try to eat it and iys swallowed then spit out a few times before they actually consume it.

he should be fine, just getting used to the new tank and new food lol but just to be safe make sure to keep an eye out on his poo and make sure he doesnt have parasites or anything
