Hey guys just wanted some opinions on green terrors. How would they do with an Oscar and a geophagus ? probably be in a 150 5x2. Love gt's but never owned one. I have read allot about them but wanted some real world experiences. Read things like "they aren't called green terrors for nothing" and that they killed peoples Oscars. But also read that they never caused problems...include some pics of your gt if you want

I don't have one but I've done research on them in case I got one for my 75. They range from "serial killer" to one I saw on youtube that was in with black skirt tetras and was a complete angel! Oscar, GT, and a gel SHOULD be fine but is get some other feedback as well. On a side note just to make sure you know, if you're getting a young geo they pretty much need to be in a group, an adult would be fine alone though. A geo group, oscar, GT, and some larger catfish would not work in a 150mso I'd recommend getting an at least subadult geo.

Thanks dive... no way would stock that heavy... I love the gt but like you I read horror stories and puppy dog stories.... if I go the gt route it may just be him and an oscar and smallish cat ( like the ones week talked about).

Make sure the Oscar's the bigger fish to start with. Obviously an Oscar will grow much quicker, but if they are comparatively sized when you put them in you might have issues with the GT, even with small fish in a 5 x 2. More than likely though you will be fine long term. I've currently got 2 7 inch Oscars and a male and female GT about 4 inches in an 8 x 2. I've also got a 4 inch male Brasiliensis. The Oscars are clearly boss at the moment but they are much bulkier. They look great together. I say go for it. If you can though, I'd go for more length and less height with your tank. Maybe 6 x 24 depth x 20 height. Still a 150 but Oscars and GT's do better with more footprint

I had a pair at one time. They were in a 75 with a Green Severum and a Pleco. The female GT and eventually the Pleco came under the male GT's aggression and were killed. The Severum seemed to handle the GT without damage. I think you could well have this mix in a 150 depending on the individual fish's temperment.

The female I had never was a real beauty queen. But the male turned into a real stunner. Developed a nice nuchal hump and got pretty big and beefy. I'd say go for it.

Gt and Oscar usually get along well they are usually relative peaceful. Beware when housing them with a Oscar of significant size difference. I had a Oscar try and eat a Gt that could just barely fit in his mouth. Poor things face was ripped off and had to be euthanized

I think it really depends on the fish. I had a GT that really hated one of my other fish. (the only one bigger than him) once I removed that guy he is rather peaceful. He will nip at some fish that get to close to him but never makes contact and doesn't bother with a full out chase.

I was also really conflicted with the stuff I have read everyone has a different opinion about these guys. Even my LFS said they don't call them Terrors for nothing but I have yet to really see it.

My Oscar and GT got along great, as the GT grew larger they had a mutual respect for each other although the Oscar ruled the tank. I also have a Geo and he is very docile, the GT rarely chases him. Since my Oscar passed, I replaced him with a JD and the GT still rules the tank for now. It's temperament is going to be hit or miss but with a name like Green Terror, what do you expect, lol. I think your set up will be fine.

I agree it should be fine to house them together. I had 3 Oscars and a GT in a 150 with no issues for 2years...then 2 of the Oscars paired off. However, with no breeding going on you should be fine and like someone else mentioned I'd go for the 6' long tank if you don't already own the 5' tank.
