This is my first time owning a GT and I was wondering how big they typically grow and do they eat feeder fish like oscars?

Mine seems to be pretty personable at 4". She swims along the glass and comes to the top always. She even swims along side the bigger O's like it's nothing lolol Very vibrant colors too and I can't wait till my GT gets bigger.

I'm appreciate any GT info or tips that you can provide.

Thanks in advance!

max size is around 10-12: for males, and 8-9" for females, i don't reccomend feeding feeders, but rather a steady diet of pellets and such, it's much healthier, a 55 would be miniumum for a adult or 2.

These fish grow slowly, maybe 6-7" the first year for a male. Large, weekly water changes are nessesary, as well as frequent, varied feedings for optimal growth. Mine loves feeders, but he never gets goldfish, only tank raised, healthy feeders, such as fancy guppies, tetras, live bearers, dwarf frogs, etc.

I have a female that grows painfully slow in a 75 with regular water changes and a variety diet she is 5" at 2 years old.I feed mine hikari gold and earthworms as the stable food and shrimp or beefheart for a little treat to mix things up a bit.If the O's are leaveing her alone then she should be just fine in their and when mine was 4" it took almost a year to get to 5" but when i got her at 1.5" she grew well that first year to 4" so after the 4" mark she will slow down alot.

i will also jump on the slow growing train i currently have one that, has grow mabey 1/4" in 3-4 months:(

What kind of fish would GT's be compatible with (cichlid wise) in say a... 75 gallon I suppose?

There names give off the impression that they are in the agression range of RD, Midas, Jags, ect. But I think one of my friends who knows nothing about fish threw 2-3 in a 75 with a JD and a convict and they lived ok until he got lucky (or unlucky i guess) and 2 of them paired up and slaughtered anything.

So how is the agression of ONE non breeding GT?

Aggression is based on tank size. Also, a GT is not in the range of midas, rd, jag, etc. More along the line of oscar aggression.

What do you think about 3 sevs and a GT... if the sevs were bigger?

in a 75 gallon that is.

(side note... don't even have a 75 gal tank (working on it)... just thinking about the future... fun to dream)

Would work sort term, but not long term. These fish have comparable growth rates, but you would be overstocked within two years, if two of the sevs don't pair off. In that case, you would have to rehome the thrid sev, and probably the GT also.
