First time to post and have a question concerning my GT he is not eating well and spending a lot of time hiding and close to the bottom. Have a 65 gal tank . Checked my parameters and ph is 6.5 hardness is 30ppm and nitrites are 0 ppm and nitrates are below 20 ppm . Did a 20 gal change yesterday and he perked up some but still did not eat as usual. Today I noticed he has a reddish tint inside his mouth and he is keeping it open . Any thoughts ?

I have checked online and it told that they prefer acidic there are so much conflicting information . have worked on bringing it up to 7 and it flucuates between the 2 numbers. I havent had problems so far he is a little over a year old . I am open to any info or ideas

Prefer moderate hardness. Tankmates? Water parameters? Pics?

Well a fluctuation between 6.5 and 7.0 can be really stressful on a fish. Its really important to keep a stable PH. I kept Green Terrors years ago and my water's ph was 7.2 and I never had any problems. For starters I would try to stabilize your PH with a crushed corral. I use a few cups of crushed corral in the filters on my 180 gallon and it holds the PH at 7.6. I know that is really high for your needs. So use much less. Maybe use one measured cup for a 65 to see if that will hold the waters PH closer to 7.0 or just below.

They tend to prefer 7-7.5. Most acaras do.
