I have been posting alot about choosing my cichlids for my tank, but I have it Narrowed down. There for sure will be a Jack Dempsey in the tank. Every Dempsey I have had has dominated one way or the other, and not been shy at all. With a Dempsey which of the two would go better? A Green Terror or Carpintis? Both beautiful fish but I just want whats best. I need some pros and cons with each. Which one at 2 inches would be able to tango in a scuffle with the Dempsey if one happens?

Questions like this are very difficult to answer. Cichlids have personalities that can override generalities about compatibility or durability. Most of the carpintis I have are quite mild mannered, but I have a young carpintis "Chairel" in a growout tank that beats on the other three relentlessly. With green terrors, some are timid and others aggressive. I suggest you try the type that appeals most to you and see how it goes. Make sure you get them at the same time so that neither fish has a chance to take ownership of the entire tank before adding the other. How big is your tank by the way? Crowding in a small tank will lead to more problems then if you give them adequate space.

75, I can't decide which looks better. As a show specimen which do you think would appeal to the common eye

Male green terrors are very impressive with their bright scales, orange trim on the fins, and bulbous head. In my experience they are slow growers though.

How much slower do they grow than Carpintis? Would it keep up with the growth of a Jack Dempsey?

To give you an estimate I bought a 1.5 inch Jack Dempsey juvie 6 or so months ago and now it's five inches. My step dad bought a 4 inch green terror 8 months ago and now it's 5 1/2 - 5 3/4 inches

So it's probably not the best idea to get it the same size as a jack Dempsey then

Here is an example of @1 year with carpintus, your growth rate may diffe depending on you water change schedule (more water changes=faster growth)
They started at @ 1"

1 year later

I tend to do every other day 20%-30% water changes, but more in summer when old water is sent directly to the garden.

Sound like your picking a fish based on what you think othwrs will like. Which one appeals to YOUR eye
