Hi Guys,
I have recently purchased a 44-gallon tank, and I wanted to have a large semi-aggressive cichlid with BUCKETS of personality, and I am trying to decide between a green terror or an oscar. Please help me choose!!
Thanks a lot,

Get a salvini, will fit the tank nicely, has personality and you can have plants in there too.
^^^ This is a much better option than a GT or oscar. Just as feisty if not more so than the fish you mentioned even at less than half their size.

Please, for the love of fish, don't put a GT or oscar in such a small tank. :)

Welcome aboard

people already said salvini, i have a green sunfish in my 55, and i didnt expect him to be anything, but he is so pretty, And greets me everyday. i compare him to oscars or flowerhorn personality. also ropefish or small polys are super personable
edit: angel fish get decent, and a pair would be enough in your tank

Jack Dempsey would be ok in there.

Oscar definitely the better personality out of the two you mentioned. That’s not enough space for one though as mentioned above.

I agree with the comments saying that tank is too small for either one. I don't know if you're coming from smaller tanks, which might make a 44 seem big, but it's small for a small adult green terror, way too small for a large adult green terror, and absurdly small for an Oscar.

I personally wouldn't recommend a Jack Dempsey, they get far too large for a 44g tank. Usually your looking at a fish that can get anywhere between 8-10in on average. My first jack I had was 10 years old and ended up being 14in, he was honestly a monster compaired to almost any other jack Dempsey but he was also the nicest one I had, all the others were extremely aggressive.

Personally I would either go with a salvini or a convict. They stay recently small but retain a massive personality for their size.
