Ok...lol i know many of you read the topic and just went "hell no" LOL. I have had plants before, and they keep the water so nice...and nitrates controlled so good!

I was wondering, what CRAZY growing plants I could try with my baby oscars, green terror and silver dollars...

And if i get them, how do I gravel vacuum the plants? I wanted to get the following, to cover the base of gravel with.

Any other suggestions? I have a 25 gallon, where I could grow a few things if that helps...when I move them to my cichlid 60 gallon tank?

dam i need a new brain! there is a plant frog bites or something grows ontop I believe its very thick and fast growing but will block out some light!

I also read, using purple/redish plants have a better % of not getting eaten etc as the leafs are more tough and dont taste good so the fish tend to leave them. Ill play around with google and see if I can find it.

Those plants in the link look fabulous, but my experience is, it will be a losing battle, as the oscars will tear them up. Floating plants would be easier to keep alive in tank, like frog bit of water sprite, or very hardy plants like jave fern or anubus, that I can tie down.

I've had much more success doing plants in a sump, or separate in line tank, dedicated to plants. I put cichlid fry in those tanks, but as soon as the fry get larger .
they must be removed to save the plants.

I see... yeah aquatic plants here are quite expensive...so I don't want to spend money on a plant that does not grow fast enough to defend itself from my O's and GT lol... we also forget how much Silver Dolars love plants to :D

Well, java fern is cheap and grows fast, new leaves and roots grow out of the old leaves and then you can plant them again in new places. This plant is a crazy grower: http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=768+828&pcatid=828 It reproduces asexually by sending a root out, and new plants grow off. then you can cute 'em off and replant them or just let a vine with leaves crawl across the bottom of your tank. anubias and crypts fish hate the taste of, so those would be good options.
