OK, still trying to plan how to fill out my 90g standard tank. Would a pair of green terrors work in there if I didn't care about raising any fry? They would be the only large fish, so far working on cycling with giant danios and loaches. Probably going to add a couple pictus cats and maybe a handful of Denison barbs, and definitely want a GT but want more than 1 if they'd tolerate each other. Any thoughts or advice are appreciated.

Sounds like you have a very workable plan. I have kept GTs together very successfully. Beautiful fish. A 90G would be great for a pair, some dither fish, and loaches.

To get a compatable pair, I'd start with 6 or 8 juvies, and allow them grow and choose what was acceptable.

Abou3 years ago I received about 12 two inch Andinoacara coeleopunctatus (a close but smaller cousin to GTs) for my 180gal
Within the 1st year, what turned out to be the alpha male, killed all other males, and within two years had reduced the females to 3.
Since that time he has lived copasetically with the three females.
If a pair bond is allowed to take place naturally (as opposed to just throwing 2 random individuals together) the odds of living copasetically is better .

In all seriousness though I do appreciate that, It's a matter of how many to start with to get a pair bond naturally. My wife won't be thrilledif I tell her I'm bringing home 8 or 10 new fish in hopes that 2 or 3 will survive together.
