I have a large green terror who is allegedly male. He is about 8" with tail.

Every picture I see of a Green Terror, they exhibit a large black spot on their side. This is absent from my fish.

Is my fish possibly a hybrid? Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks

Sorry about the flash.

from the pics i have seen yours looks like a true green terror. i maybe wrong and others will correct me but i think the dark spot on commonly seen gts is from being crossed with acaras. i got a gt bout two years back and he/she had the dark spot, i believe it wasnt a true gt but crossed with an acara or someother sa cichlid

Nice!

Interesting, never heard of any theory like that. It seems pretty plausible.

But I doubt he is a "true" anything, considering the dump he was rescued from.

its not a "true" GT, its a regular gold saum. he is very nice though, good colouration. as for the black spot, it seems to show more when they are under stress. either fighting or being chased.

saums arent a cross breed either, they are a cousin of the smaller and more aggressive true GT.

I have never seen the spot and have owned him for about two years. He is pretty shy, but still growing. Not a real glass-banger if you know what I mean.

def not a true green terror, I've noticed they don't all display that spot also.

and it is more predominant when stressed.
