I have kept a Green Terror before, but only singly. Yesterday I introduced a 2nd GT into my new 75g tank (4 foot). Both GT’s are young – 3-4” long. They’re in there with a 5” Severum, a 4” pike and a bichir.

Some questions: :)

1. I think I may have a male and a female GT, and as of last night they seemed to like each other…:naughty: if they were to become a pair, would I have to keep them on their own, or can a pair co-exist with the other fish in the tank?
2. If I did put the pair into their own tank, can I safely leave them together for life? Or do GT’s get aggressive with their mates? Would some robust dither fish help / be a good idea?
3. If they are not a pair, I’m thinking I better just choose 1 since two non-pair GT’s in a 4-foot tank doesn’t seem like a good idea… am I right?

Thanks!

the pair might make it hard on the other inhabitants of the tank. I'd always have a divider around when breeding large aggressive fish.

1)green terrors are quite agressive and keeping them with others while breeding is not recommended.
2)GT males become quite agressive and may even kill their mates keeping a few dither fish may be good if u have a large tank.
3)you are right

Hmm ok thanks Ruben and Icecube. I suspected as much...

Well I think I'm either going to return 1 of the GT's, or get another tank and a divider for the female. Given my lack of space and funds for new tanks, it will prolly be the former.

Ah well... the reason I got the 2nd guy in the first place was because he's a very nice specimen while the female is a little lacking in the fin/colouration department (although she definitely seems to have the nicer personality of the two... Choices choices!)

Thanks again for the intel.
