I just bought this guy at the lfs .He has some pectoral fin damage/fin rot. I have put in a dose of melafix in and some salt . does anyone have any experience with fin rot? He is a little over 8". Thanks

I can't seem to see any damage in that photo. What you are doing is fine, just keep the temp at around 84. beautiful fish and great picture.
Actually i do see it, what your doing is fine.

in my avatar i have a gt and i looked yours then i looked at mine and y doesnt yours have a big black dot on its side or is that just with some of them.

This is my first gt so I am no expert or anything but I have seen them with and with out the black dot . I seen a article on them and it said that a true gt (wild caught ) has been not in the hobby for around 10 years do to the crazy drug trade in there native waters.I don't know if that is true or not but it could give some explanation .

looks like a good save, could maybe do with a good meal to fatten him up a little, no surprise seeing as he is from an lfs, but otherwise he looks good.
for the fin damage, what you have done is great and just keep the water quality good. the melafix will speed up the recovery and stave off further infection.

Another Question is he does not seem that interested in food I have tried krill and pellets but the only thing he will eat is flakes.which seems weird to me. could he just be adjusting or maybe that's the only food he has ever had

it will be what he is used to more than likely, easier for lfs to feed one food to all fish than have different types for all their fish. when you put flake in add a pellet or 2 and put it in together then gradually increase the amount of pellets while reducing the flake or starve him out for a few days to a week and add a pellet to see if he takes it, he will soon learn that pellets are edible. his hunger will take over learned behaviours.

They should have been called sneetches.
