Hello everyone,
I recently purchased this little guy (2"-3") and I have it in a 40 gallon breeder. It's a grow out with an eventual 75 being its final home. I've researched and from what I gather it's a male. Ultimately, I would love to have a solo male green terror species tank, however if it is a female, then my plan is to purchase a male and move them into the 75. Question is, male or female? I've attached 5 photos, please help clarify this for me. Also, I've only had it for 2 days, but it is still yet to eat. 0's across the board as far as water parameters. Truthfully, I tried feeding twice and since no interest was shown, I've put the little guy on a fast for 2 days or so and then see if the NLS .5mm look more appetizing.

That was my inclination as well. Would it be ok to purchase 3-5 more and see if any pair off? Thoughts?

That's what most people do when they're trying to get pairs.

I think you're odds are better with five than with three though.

Excellent, do you think it will be an issue to add 4 more in a 40 breeder with this guy that has been in the tank a couple of days already? I could always net it out, do a water change and rearrange rock work and then introducing all of them at once.

Ps once they pair off, I will net out everyone except the pair so they will have the whole 40 to themselves for a bit before moving to an eventual 75.

That depends on the fish. I think it's less likely you'll have a blood bath because you're adding so many at one time instead just adding one new fish.

if it's 2" it could go either way, if it's more like 3" then I lean more toward female. it looks very healthy to say the least, that's a positive for now, give it another 6 months and post another pic

u could always set up a 2nd tank to put the others in as needed....u might have to start BEFORE you figure out which are a true pair. I have groups of female cichids that "pair" between the group and act like pairs, but they are simply banding together in spccies to have some weight to throw in tanks full of heavy-hitterz ; by doing this they can back-down some of the real psychos in the tanks
