Over the past few weeks, my approx. 6.5" GT has been trying to swim upside down.. and I cannot why a fish woudl even attempt such a thing...

today I came downstairs to find him stuck upside down between a piece of fake driftwood and the glass, and now he's not quite stable, I have him stuck in a net for right now, directly underneath the area where my filter returns water, because the tank is a little low on water, so there's many air bubbles, so hopefully he's getting enough oxygen.. any ideas??

Constipation. Feed him duckweed. Teaspoon or so. Repeat dose after 24 hours if nothing happens. Dont feed any meaty foods during that time.

I find that they'll that to eating frozen peas quicker then duckweed, just shell them and drop them in and most fish eat the straight away.

well guys, thanks for the adivce.. liek I said, I had him trapped in the net near the incoming water, and by the time I got home much later, he was belly up, so I had to remove him...

but agian, thanks for the advice... no my next question is based on this: he was barely eating for the longest time... and gettin in fights that he started with my dempseys, and he was getting beat up, so I separated him with some eggshell for about two weeks, he started re-gaining his color and what not, but he was stil barely eating, is that stil a symtpom of constipation?

i agree

pees are very good and healthy for fish and cichlids love them
my oscar and jd fight over them all the time:ROFL:

May have had a swimbladder problem

Swimbladder perhaps. Constipation means he does not poo, wee etc and it can be very painful if that fish keeps on eating as the fecael matter gets all collected up in the bowel and may sometimes rupture internaly.
