About two and half weeks ago I put three cherry barbs in my Gold Saums tank. The tank also houses one unsexed 4" Firemouth and one 1" GT that is the only remaining fry that I decided to hold on to and see what the future holds. My male Gold Saum is about 9" in total length and so far I've had total success with the barbs. I'm going to give it another week or so and if it all goes well, I'll be adding 5-7 more of the cherry barbs and hopefully get a good school going. I've never kept them before and always wanted to so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.:woot:
I've heard of GT owners having success keeping a school of Tiger Barbs and was planning on going that route, decideing on the cherries at the pet store when I went to pick up the Tiger's.

your good. i keep my GT with fancy tail guppies.

I'm glad it's working out for you.

I had tried cherry barbs first with my 8" saum but they only lasted 3 days. I thought I was in the clear but he ended up hunting down all 6 of them at night. I got scared for a second because I thought thier was something wrong with him in the morning when he didn't come up for food but figured out why when I couldn't find the cherry barbs. I've had success with tiger barbs though. I bought six and he only ate the runt. The others are doing well and he basically ignores them.

Cool! I have giant danios with mine. Hopefully he won't decide to eat them when he gets big enough.

The more reading I do the more I learn that cherry barbs actually don't school at all. This is dissapointing because for years I've always thought they did. For the first week and a half they stayed together and now for the last few days they're seperated and doing their own thing.

I'm starting to think about Tiger's....

What do you guys think I should do?
Help me decide...

P.S.
Nomad,
Show me an updated pic of your GT. I got mine very shortly after you bought yours and I always liked checking him out.
