Green terror

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Both look like females to me.
2nd one looks like it has more a deeper sloping head like males get, don't you think? Could be nothing, but if there's a chance 1 could be male, my vote would be the smaller one. The 1st one certainly has much more orange though and broader areas of it

Head shape can be a good sex indicater for a lot of species, however this is one cichlid where both sexes can have male looking cranial profile.
The fish below are females, look at the head shape.

Thanks everyone! The second (smaller) one i got with a group of 3 other green terrors around the same size and that one doubled it's size in about 2 months soo it definitely has some dominance im just waiting for it's dorsals to start showing signs

Those are ALL females???
Yes Frank all females.
To me the easiest way of sexing rivulatus is by colour.males have lighter brighter colours, even when young.
The picture below was taken when these fish were less than 100mm long but you can easily see the difference in sexes.
However a nice female on her own can look a lot like a male when one is not around for comparison.

Male is at the rear.

Here is another female showing the male head shape.
