Hey guys. I was taking pics of the tank today and comparing them to older shots and realized that within two months my GT lost his black spot on either side. I got him at 4" and hes now around 8" and fat. He's always been happy and healthy and nothing has changed recently. I always thought color changes were agitation and stress related, but like I said his environment hasn't changed much aside from a minor re-scape.

My old Gold Saum had a black spot that came and went, nothing unusual. As for your GT, it is a very nice specimen. Well done!

Thank you guys! I appreciate the compliments. I didn't realize that they lose the spot as an adult dominant male. Could I use the loss of his spot to guess his age?

The spot will come and go, depending the the stress or emotion the fish is feeling presently. Simply, it just depends on the environment and the fish's mood. I hope this helps! :) it is not necessarily worth worrying about because the fish can have the spot even if he or she is happy.

That's a really nice looking GT with or without the black spot.
