I know these two cichlids can look very similar as babies. I was in my lfs today and saw some baby green terrors but am not quite convinced that they aren't blue acaras...can anyone tell me a sure fire way to tell the difference. i would hate to raise them out to find they aren't what i wanted. Thanks!

Most Blue Acaras Ive seen do not have orange on their caudal fins like GTs

The two are considerably different once they get older...

just read somewhere that the acaras have the black line going over their eyes while the gts don't, so it looks like the ones i saw are acaras. glad i didn't pick them up, guess i will just have to wait

A good "Guide" to tell them apart:

Which fish do I have? Green Terror ("Aequidens" sp. goldsaum) vs.Blue Acara (Aequidens pulcher)

http://www.oscarfish.com/article-home/fish/87-green-terror-blue-acara.html

The exact species of "Green Terror" is a subject of debate.. Then there is another debate about Gold Saum V."True" Green Terror.. But, for the sake of this discussion the above link should be enough to distinguish between the Blue Acara and the "common" (or "False") Green Terror.

Good luck,
Sid

PS: This confusion worked to my advantage when I found a LFS selling "common" GTs for the price of Blue Acara's... I got 4 of them (~4" each) for like 3.50 USD..

I have generally found BA to be much harder to come by ... seems most LFS will stock the GT, since there is more demand for those ...
