Alright so I can give a quik run down. I have a male and female green terror (pair) male is 4.5 inches female is 3, 7 inch pleco, 6 inch (belly crawler) pike in a 55 gallon and there ready to go up to a larger tank. I'm getting a 150 in a few weeks and was wandering if anyone has ever tried to put silver dollars with these fish? The silver dollares will be red hooks and I will get 6 of them. I do big, frequent water changes and tests on all my tanks. I monitor and adjust my levels like a nazi. I just have never tried to keep non cichlids with cichlids. I hear its possible but want a few opinions before I do it. My G/T pair are very mild and when they had ther last clutch there were 4 firemouths with them and the fire mouths never even got tatered fins. They still defended there teritory but were not outwardly aggresive. So what do you guys think? Thanks.

silver dollars make great target fish because they are so fast and its hard for a Large cichlid to fit one in its mouth so i think you should go for it!! i will be getting some for my tank which has a jag

Silver dollars go great with cichlids. But, red hooks grow larger so a group of 4-5 might be more reasonable.

A buddy of mine has a 110 gal CA/SA tank with I think 4 regular SD. From what I've seen they get along great.

I have silver dollars (6) in my 90 gallon with a gt and a jd (and pleco). Everyone gets along great! I have been recommending silver dollars as dithers with gts for a long time.

Thank you all for your fast and experianced replys. I guess I was freaking out over it because I have never kept non cichlids with cichlids (besides plecos). I'm very happy to hear this will work! I recalled someone saying red hooks get big, that's the reson I suggested them. Is there another species that's smaller and will also be ok with the pike and green terrors? If so what are they called so I can do some research. It would be awsome to have a larger school of smaller fish with my cichlids it would really give a natural feel to the tank. Let me know and once again thank you. I've been keeping fish a long time but have no experiance with silver dollars. So thanks.

Also I forgot to mention is that silver dollars are from south america like the gt. One thing you can do is get the silver dollars and then if they get too big for your tank trade them in for some smaller ones and perhaps make a profit of some sort at the same time!
