I have a Female Green Texas about 2" had her about a months. I also have a male about 4" had him about a week. She colored up with the black breeding colors within 24 hours. His colors haven't changed at all. I don't see any eggs but she is getting fat. Will the male color up if he is interested or no? Also will she loose the black if he doesn't come around. I am actually not interested in breeding I just got them because of the individual appearance of the fish. I am also not a fan of the black breeding colored so I hope it goes away. Are these constant breeders like convicts and firemouths? If so I think I may have to rehome one.

I have found the female colors up first, and the male doesn't color up until the time of spawning, and doesn't get really dramatic until fry appear.

After spawning the black does subside.
If kept together, mine would spawn again as soon after fry were removed, or after fry hit @ 1".
