Anyone keep these guys?? I had one before in my 75 but had to give him up when i took the tank down. I am purchasing a 46 gal bowfront at the end of the week (3' by 15'' by 18').

I want to buy about 6 of them if i can find them and get a pair then get rid of the rest. Do u think this tank is big enough for a pair?? my last one only got to about 4'' till i got rid of him and i read they only get to about 10'' max.

ITs taken me forever to decide on what fish i wanted to keep, i'm trying to take things slow this time and do it right the first time! I'm the type of guy who goes to the fishstore and has to be dragged out of there before i buy up everything!

if not any recommendations on what would be a good CA/SA pair to keep in this size tank would be appreciated.

carpinte are cool if you can find them. like you say cynagattums are a little more common. A small pr. may work for a while but I'd at least get another 75 for the pair with some convicts, firemouths or something fast swimming(ie. tinfoils).

All the texans that I have seen thought they were all Chuck Norris. I couldn't imagine the carnage of two in a 40 something gallon. I wouldn't recomend less than 75 gallons.

Oh and they may change to orange and back to green again. Wickedly cool fish!!!

Is there a reason you want them? Cuz there are many more options out there for you if you don't have to have the texas.

Thorichthyes are some great fish and would do great in a tank that size. Aequidens, Krobia, Geophagus, Satanoperca...just to name a few...;)

carpintis can grow up to a foot or more so eventually would need a larger (75 at least) tank. they could be kept in there for a while as a growout tank though. like Peanut said there are lots of other choices for a 3' tank and another group he left out was the Cryptoheros group. a pair of tbars, spilurums, cutteri or honduran red points with a bunch of dithers would make a very nice setup. :grinyes:

ya, I just really like Carpintes, i love there color and how there not a cichlid that you see everyday. I was thinking about salvini also, I will probably go for them if I cant find any carpinte. I also was interested in Blue Acaras but I have never seen juvies for sale in my area.
