I know this is a fish website, but I thought maybe someone would know something about green tree frogs. I want to get some kind of gecko or something that is small and non aggressive to go with my green tree frogs. I have a 33 gallon tank (long) with 5 tree frogs. I was told something called a sand tail gecko would be great, but I can't find any info about them.

Does anyone have any ideas or personal experience with green tree frogs and mixing with small reptiles?

I know mixing amphibians and reptiles is normally not a good idea, so I do not really think I will find something to mix with the green tree frogs, but does not hurt to check I guess. I do see frogs and lizards mixed all the time in pet stores, but just because pet stores do something doesnt mean other people should, lol.

Thanks

you can house gekos or anoles they would good but make sure not alot of lizard ubt make sure the frogs and lizards are smae size they might try and eat each other

personally I wouldnt keep anything with frogs.Gotta look into thier toxicity levels and such, different bacterias and other problems could arise, just my thoughts from what Ive read that makes sense,I know we would all love to mix stuff but you know, gotta discipline ourselves too a little.

Oh yea that's true they do secrete mucous that might affect an anole badly I never thought of that.

I am probably not going to mix them now. Just a thought really. My frogs have gotten very lazy now, so I was wondering what I could do to make them more active. When my newts got lazy, I added some fish and all was well. Since there was not enough water for fish in the frog tank, I thought another amphibian or reptile.

Anoles need a lot more air movement than frogs, and also require a basking area with heat and UV, which is not particularly healthful for frogs. The only herps I would suggest mixing with green treefrogs are similar-sized eastern US treefrogs, such as gray or barking treefrogs.

tahts good to know. Any idea what is a good number of frogs since I have a 33 and I have not from a good answer for that.
the average answer I got was 10 which seems a little high. The highest was 70 which is crazy in my mind and I threw that answer out teh door and called taht person an idiot ( I know, i'm mean)

Your frogs may have slowed down if to cool. They also seem to like green plants that they blend in to.

Easy plants like pothos that you can plant in baby food type jars with wet gravel, soil grow great (with light) and that might give them a "boost" assuming you dont have plants already (Plastic plants as long as safe work great) but again to cool they slow down a lot.

If I was keeping them in a 33 gallon would go with 4 or 5 tops . The males ignore each other unlike other tree frog types .

They are solitary unless breeding season so you do want to give them "personel space" to not be in contact in the tank but they don't mind each other just don't crowd them.

BTW some tree frogs depending where they are from do slow down regardless of temp you keep them at.

The local green tree frogs here which were the one's I was thinking about are active all year but come Jan/Feb even if temps are in high 80s you no longer see them till March.
