What can this be? It started just at the bottom of the tank, now all the tank water is green. What causes this, and what should i do? Thanks in advance.

Likely an Algae bloom. How long do you have your tank lights on? Is your tank in a bright room?

I had this problem with my 180. A UV Sterilizer cleared it right up. In fact let me find the thread for you...

a UV will help. also frequent waterchanges

All you really need to do is cut out the light totally for a week or so and cut back on the feeding for the same time period.

How long has this tank been set up?
water perams?

The more information we have the better the potential advice is going to be.
UV steralizers DO work but there are lot simpler ways of dealing with an algae problem.

I just did a 80% water change, and it seems to be clearing up. For the record, i have a 72g bowfront. Lets see what happens.

I have problems with a couple of my tanks going REALLY GREEN occasionally. The worst one was beside a window and was fine for 6 months, then it got to summer, more daylight and sun :nilly: Inspite of 50% weekly changes it just got greener. After a week you could only see the fish if they came up to the glass. I have since moved it and it's come right in a couple of weeks. The other one I just have to remember to keep the curtain beside it closed by a foot or so or it goes green.

Cheers

I think 72 bowfronts are prone to this problem!:D Mine turned green as well when I first set it up. First time I EVER had a tank green up...

As others have said, stay on top of the water changes.
A diatom filter works SUPER but you new school kids don't seem to own them.:)
Yes, a UV will work but IMO, the tank needs to be clean for UV to work. UV is a good investment.

Know what works for me? The algae killer made by Jungle. ;)
No, it doesn't kill your fish or make them grow 2 heads or extra fins and it's available from Petco. I think Jungle products generally suck but for some reason their algae killer really works. ;)
