ok i got green water in short order..(65g planted)..i added a new light(added another led fixture) about a week before could that be the problem

just what i thought.. so wont my plants die/suffer if i turn the light off for a week or two
The algae is out-competing the plants for nutrients at this point, so probably you're plants are not striving and/or you don't have enough plants

well when i could see my plants (yesterday) they were growing...iam positive in my own mind(small as that world is) that it was a case of kids overfeeding the fish and the plants along with the addition of a new light and not near enough plants in the tank (since i want a extremely heavy planted tank..lol)...doing a big water change now..gonna clean out sump(yes filtration is set up like my salty tanks)..reduce lighting and cut back on feeding(as long as the plants and fish get enough to eat) and see if that helps out..bottom is sand and the cory cats keep it spotless

keep your lights off, as suggested, for a week or so. The fish won't mind and your plants won't take to hard a hit but if you are worried about that only leave your lights on for a few hours a day or every other day until the algae bloom dies down. Also as suggested a UV would help alleviate the issue as well
