what is the solution to ridding green water

lower light cycle, water changes and uv ster.

UV is a good preventative, but bad for planted tanks. Check your nitrates. What is your lighting schedule like? Another good removal system is live daphnia. If you get enough daphnia, they will reproduce and eat the green water fast enough to get rid of it, before you fish eat them.

Is the tank in line with substantial direct sunlight? If so, perhaps that may also be the cause. You can also do some larger water changes to get rid of the excess nutrients in the water.

The best cure depends on your setup. What plants do you have, and what kind of lighting are you using?

I've read that using a UV sterilizer will oxidize some nutrients making them useless to the plants, which is why WyldFya mentioned they're no good for planted tanks.

the best cure is to give it all to me, lol i could use it for when i get my shrimp setup =]

should i do 20% water changes everyday for a week?

Water changes and a diatom filter works wonders. I went from the first pic the second in 2 days with a 50% water change and the filter running. Once it was clear I did another 50% water change.

The few times Ive had green water, doubling the water movement with powerheads or filters and 2 90% waterchanges a day apart cleared it right up.
Or you could throw a cup of daphnia in there and let them eat it
