Hey guys so problem is that my tank is GREEN, its a 75 gallon and its impossible to see to the other side with how much green is in there, I know its free floating algae. I have tried 50% water changes and everything else even water treatments like Algae Control by tetra and some other stuff but I have thrown out the bottles, they never worked and my Trimac hated it when they were added to I would like to avoid that.

So what do I do now? Should I change my lighting? its just the single 48" light strip that came with the tank when I bought it last year. If so what kind should I get?

Some people have said UV sterilizers but I have heard mixed reviews for them as well.

Any ideas? Im tired of looking at a completely green tank all day!

-Thanks, Jay

API Accu-Clear. Shake it like a SOB for a min or 2, then pour it into your FILTER. The only thing it killed on my tank was the live free floating Alge Bloom. All water quality tests had the same results before and after and a week later. Takes about 8 hours to clear it up. All plants are fine, even the alge growing on the glass is still there.

For long term, UV is the way to go.

does it get a lot of natural sunlight? i'm assuming this isnt a planted tank. therefore, the only cause for algae is excess light. i dont understand how people get green water in a non-planted tank that isnt by a window. i couldnt grow algae even if i wanted to! :nilly:

Turn your lights off more often than not(suggest a timer and on no more than 6-8 hrs/day) and get a UV sterilizer...you will not regret it. It will not only help with free algea, but properly set up, it will kill pathogens as well.
