Hi im working on a slefsustaining planted tank in a 55 gallon went away from a weak came back to green water. I did not put the light on at all during that week. There is no noticable allgea on the plants or walls. Everything is alive and healthy and all levels are looking good. Any advice how to get rid of it?

I notice the vertical blinds behind the tank, were they left opened while you were away? It seems as if enough intense sunlight was able to reach the tank and cause an algae bloom. You might have to do a few large water changes to get it under control.

The blinds were open slightly no more then usual and i usually put the leds on for 6 hours a day which i didnt do so it recieved less light then usual

Looks like the plants really took off....have you done a few water changes ?

I was really busy this weekend with volunteering but im going to try to do one tomorrow any suggestion on how to take water out with out sucking up fry?

Panty hose over the end of the hose.

Are you still not using mech in the filter just bio ?

May help to add some filter floss

In my experience, I never had too much luck clearing the green water from algae blooms during cylcing. It may be likely that I didn't do enough frequent water changes to dilute with fresh water. I ended up getting a UV sterlizer. I think that helped and the fact that my tank had cycled by then too.
