Hello,
I originally saw this site a year or two ago when I came across a link to that guy who was building that monster fish tank inside of his house. (I recall seeing photographs of earthmoving equipment). (Anyone have the link to that post?). Since then, I have only been coming around here every few months, but I decided to join yesterday. (I couldn't see some of the photos unless I joined
).
I have a 6.5 feet (long) by 2 feet (wide) by 2.5 (high) cabinet style tank. (around 230 US gallons or 880 litres). The occupants are:

I have a 6.5 feet (long) by 2 feet (wide) by 2.5 (high) cabinet style tank. (around 230 US gallons or 880 litres). The occupants are:
- 1 18-inch clown knife;
- 2 12-inch royal clown knifes (these are around 30 months old. I thought that this was their maximum size, until I saw that some people on this site have royal clowns a lot bigger than mine);
- 4 jaguars, 6 to 8 inches.(these breed all the time. They guard the eggs, then they guard the fry for a couple of days. The fry then get eaten. Some extra protein for the other fish);
- 4 blood parrots, around 5 to 6 inches (a lot of people on other sites get really worked up about blood parrots, saying that they are unnatural. Maybe they are, but isn't the whole hobby of keeping fish in an enclosed space perhaps unnatural?). (I like them because they add some colour to the tank). (Please note the correct and proper way to spell colour
). - 1 albino tiger oscar and one normal tiger oscar (around 7 inches). (These are probably both female - they are not agressive at all to the other fish, and spend most of their time playing with each other).
- 2 common plecos around 10 to 12 inches each;
- 1 royal pleco, around 6 inches. (I paid the equivalent of 85 US$ for this pleco a couple of months ago. What would you have paid for this fish in your area?);
- 1 african clown. These are the ones without the dorsal fin. This one is perhaps stunted because it is two years old and is only about 7 inches long;
- and, two angel fish, around 5 to 6 inches long. Don't ask me what I was thinking when I first put these in the tank, but they have been there around a year and appear to be happy and healthy. The other day I saw one of the angels chasing a jag away.
- Submersible pump circulating the water through a built-in in-tank filter. Circulation is around 4.5 times per hour. Lots of biological filtration. The outlet from the pump is at the surface - this creates the water movement requied for gas exchange. I do however also use an airpump with two outlets. There are two bubble walls in the tank.
- 3 300 watt heaters. There is space inside the built-in filter for the heaters, so they are hidden from view.
- 1 30 watt light, 1 40 watt light. One of these is a blue marine light. The lights are on a timer switch, on for 8 hours a day.
- I do weekly 40% water changes using a Python; (Rule number 1: never leave a Python unattended
); - I clean the filter once a month;
- The water is crystal clear, and the parameters are excellent. In my unbiased opinion, this is a really cool tank.
