Hey all - I'm new to MFK, though not new to the hobby. My fish keeping resume focuses on Lake Tanganyika and SA/CA cichlids, with a smattering from elsewhere.
Right now I'm wading into Lake Malawi. I've a pile of juvies in a nice 54G corner tank, which they'll outgrow during in the next few months. (3 Alunacara Red, 3 Copa Boleyi, 3 Cyrtocara Moori, 3 Yellow Lab, 3 Melies . . . yeah, I like the number 3).
During the Fall/Winter I'll be setting up their new, more permanent home in the form of an Oceanic 90G Tech Reef Ready on a Tech SS stand. I want to filter with a large w/d sump and an inline UV on the return hose (which I have from an earlier setup - or should I not impose it on the return? Should I put it in its own circulation loop out of the sump?), and maybe some small water polishing filter in the sump too. Over the past 7 years I've used only Eheim canister filters, on tanks up to 125G.
SO, my question to this august body:
What's your collective wisdom on a wet/dry sump for this size tank? Any specific experiences with this tank/stand setup and sumps? (There's an eye-glazing plethora of information out there and I'd sooner rely on the experience of others than the copy writers selling goods on the web.)
I'd love to hear your experiences with different w/d sump makes, add-ons, customization, what you'd do differently, etc. Like a lot of us I head into a new project with excitement and a desire to do it just perfect this time! I look forward to any advice.
Thanks in advance for any and all thoughts! - Catnoir
