For over a decade, my old 20 gallon aquarium sat in a garage in Ohio. On a whim, I tossed it in the trunk of a rental car and lugged it back home to Chicago. Some six months after that, I decided to clean out the spiderwebs and put something in it. From these humble beginnings sprung my new found obsession with aquaria.
I am focused on freshwater, and my girlfriend has become interested in saltwater. The next goal in my sights is to set up a freshwater or brackish puffer tank. She has designs to start up a nano reef. Four months ago I knew nothing about aquariums, now it seems a distinct possibility that 5 years will find me in an apartment full of tanks, pumps, filters, and little else.
I've been stringing / freelancing as a photographer since the ripe young age of 15, and lately I've found myself overwhelmed by the urge to photograph my aquarium and it's inhabitants. Concerns about strobe lighting, stressed fish, and distortion have stopped me thus far.
I'm looking forward to poking around this community, gleaning experience from its members, and hopefully being about to toss a couple helpful cents in myself.
