I have been keeping fish for a long time. I started with all of the usual stuff, then gravitated to big cichlids, African cichlids, saltwater, even a reef tank. But now I have found a niche that I love more than any other...
Monsters.
I have arowanas, bichirs, knifefish, big cats, etc. But never, I mean never, have I seen anything eat like my African Lungfish. It is just plain gross.
He appears two chew his food, mixing it with a thick mucus. He then spits it out most of the way, and draws it back in. He does this several times. Each time the food is more chewed up, and the wad of spitty mucus is thicker and bigger. He then draws it in for the last time, swallowing the food and blowing out a good quantity of mucus and food bits through his gills. What a mess.
Do they all do this?

 sounds sexy

yup, they all do this :)

this is mainly in part to the fact that they don't have a very well-developed (moreover very efficient) digestive system, so they need to process the food quite a bit before it reaches the gut. definitely interesting to watch--
